New England Aster Aster novae-angliae | Sept. 26, 2010 |
The beautiful New England aster is a wonderful flower to behold.
The first photo shows an aster bud right before it opens into its purple and yellow self. |
A tiny hover fly is examining an open New England aster flower. |
Hover flies look like but are not bees. However, hover flies are considered good bugs.
The aster flowers have attracted many different types of butterflies throughout September. Here's a monarch. |
The New England aster grows to be about 3 to 7 feet high, and its flowers are about 2 inches across. They're beautiful! I wish I had some in my backyard.
Photo note: I used the Pentax K20D, with the Voigtlander 125mm macro lens, for these photos, taken during September 2010. |
