A stroll to Calf Crag
in late autumn

A friendly fell of the Lake District, Calf Crag is a relaxing walk of some 9 miles roundtrip offering scenic views.

Lowlands

The lowland approach to the start of the ascent, in the valley of Far Easedale, wanders along woods, stone fences, farm houses, and a stream.

Steps

A bit of history here: The Stythwaite Steps used to be boulders by which one bounced across the stream. Later, it was a pair of planks; but by the by it became this fashionable little bridge (which subsequently has had yet a new transformation). It marks the transition into Far Easedale valley, once the home of a glacier.
