Carolina Wren and Friends | February 6, 2011 |
|
The Carolina wren (Thryothorus ludovicianus) is remarkably spunky and willing to share suet with almost any other bird.
Of course, it pays to be cautious on the approach and inspect the general feeding area.

| ||
When it is safe, the Carolina wren flies over to the suet. (Everyone seems to prefer peanut butter suet to all-season suet.)

| ||
In the course of the day, the wren shares the suet first with a male downy woodpecker. |
|
And then with a female downy woodpecker. |
|
Here is the Carolina wren with a black-capped chickadee, which has a similar zest for life. |
|
A few days later, I noticed a second Carolina wren joining the first. Are they a couple? |

In the background above is a male downy woodpecker.
