Blue-Headed Vireo Vireo solitarius | October 10, 2010 |
|
Although I didn't know it at the time, I had good luck for my first photo of the blue-headed vireo (Vireo solitarius). An identifying mark is the eye ring extending toward the bill (so it appears that the vireo is wearing eye glasses).

I wasn't aware of the luck involved until afterward. While taking photos, I was frustrated by the vireo's hanging back in the shadows. However, little by little, the vireo demonstrated other ID marks, such as its wing bars. |
At one time, the blue-headed vireo was also known as the solitary vireo. |
In a sense all too typical, but the blue-headed vireo popped into the sunshine when I least expected it.

A view of any bird's rear may not be ideal, but the overall colors are shown fairly well.
Photo note: I used a Pentax K20D, with the Sigma 150-500mm lens. The photos were taken on October 8, 2010. |
