Lincoln Sparrow | March 2010 |
|
Lincoln's sparrow (Melospiza lincolnii) looks like it should have been called something other than a sparow.
With its touches of red and yellow, a Lincoln's sparrow is downright striking. |
Lincoln's sparrow is also somewhat rare around here. News of any sighting quickly spreads among the local State College birders.

I've only seen (and photographed) a Lincoln's sparrow the once. But I'm always hoping for another chance for better photographs. If Wikipedia can be believed, the sparrow was named after Tom, not Abraham, Lincoln. Photo note: I used the Pentax *ist D, with the SMC 1000mm reflex lens, on September 20, 2007, for both photos. |
