Chipping Sparrow | April 2006 |
|
Small and feisty, chipping sparrows have a bright red cap, a black eye-level line (with a white line over that), and a clear breast. (The somewhat larger American tree sparrow looks similar but has a black mark on its breast.)
The following chipping sparrow was very obliging. First he showed me an excellent profile.

And then he turned slightly to show his clear breast. | ||

What a cooperative bird!
Photo note: I used a Pentax *ist D, with the SMC 1000 mm reflex lens - from indoors. I kept backing up and backing up until I reached the minimum focusing distance, which is about 24 feet. And note the excellent bokeh with the 1000mm reflex. |
