Sharing Space
Unmatched Pairs at the Bird Feeder
March 2005

Whereas birds among the same species can become competitive within a smaller space, those of different species are often more tolerant. Sometimes. But it is a good excuse to show a pair of photos of different birds together.

I liked the following one for the "shocked" expression of the titmouse during the chickadee's landing.

Tufted titmouse and chickadee

Although the Carolina wren is generally shy by the other birds at the feeders, this one didn't mind the male downy woodpecker whacking away at the suet.

Both the wren and the downy stayed together for several minutes while enjoying a good feed.

Photo note: I used a Pentax *istD, with the SMC-A* 300mm lens with the 1.4x multiplier for these photos.
