Rose-Breasted Nuthatch | February 2006 |
|
The rose-breasted nuthatch is about two-thirds the size of a white-breasted nuthatch, which is already a small bird.
For that matter, the rose-breasted nuthatch (who we call Rose) reminds me more of a chickadee: it has a feisty spirit. When seed or suet is replenished, Rose is the first one back.

Rose occasionally tries bird seed, but prefers the suet. As any nuthatch, Rose is equally adept being upside-down or right-side up. In the photo below, Rose is about to take off. | ||

Photo note: I used a Pentax *ist D, with the SMC-A* 300mm lens with the 1.7x Pentax adapter (used manually although the adapter allows autofocus). |
