Ruby-Throated Hummingbird Action Archilochus colubris | Sept. 2, 2012 |
Ruby-throated hummingbirds (Archilochus colubris) have been enlivening the State College, Pennsylvania, area for over the past week. Now, whereas I've a parallel pages of yard photos of female and male ruby-throated hummingbirds, I thought to present more action and less thought. Yes, hummers are action-heroes!
First, though, who is that mysterious stranger by the rose of sharon? |
More straightforward action is a hummer investigating the feeder. |
And no one but a hummer can make such a rapid exit (after eating). |
The following is from the game land this morning. |

But, you might say, the hummingbirfd is sitting still. How is that action?
The answer is straightforward: That hummer is totally fluffed out. He's practicing a form of hummingbird isometrics. Photo note: I used a Pentax K20D, with the Sigma 150-500mm lens, on 31 August (first three) and 2 Sept. 2012, for these photos. |
