Great Crested Flycatcher Myiarchus crinitus | Nov. 25, 2012 |
|
The following sequence of three photos of the great crested flycatcher (Myiarchus crinitus) date to over a year ago. Perhaps I was waiting to see if I could get a better set; however, I haven't met another since then, so these will have to do for the time being.
The great crested flycatcher is one of the larger flycatchers (nearly the size of a thrush or American robin), and its distinctive features are a crest, a yellow tummy, and cinnamon wings and tail.
Well, I got the crest and yellow tum in the first photo.

The next photo shows a trace of the cinnamon.

More cinnamon here but the crest is down.

All in all, I'd say a very shy bird. Or perhaps I caught the great crested flycatcher on an off day during migration.
Photo note: I used a Pentax K20D, with either the Pentax SMC 1000mm reflex lens or the Sigma 150-500mm lnes (I forget), on September 10, 2011, for these photos. |
