Redhead | March 22, 2009 |

It has been rather quiet on the Toftrees Pond along the game land here, opposite Cooper's Pond. So I was happily surprised when Sue pointed at a new duck with a red head. The lighting was difficult for a clear photo, but that never stopped me from trying.

Sue and I wondered how easy it would be to identify a duck with a red head.
It turned out to be straightforward: Redhead. (Who'd ever guess a bird name could be that simple?)
The Redhead is a visitor during migration and doesn't stop for long in central Pennsylvania. And following (if somewhat whimsical) is the type of splash made by a Redhead when diving for food.

Several minutes later both the duck and I changed our mutual positions sufficiently for me to have a clearer photo.

Hey, it's fun meeting a Redhead!
Photo note: I used a Pentax K200D, with the SMC 1000mm reflex lens on March 20, 2009, for these photos. |
