The common snapping turtle of central Pennsylvania is fascinating to see; there is something so prehistoric about any of them.
Typically, I would see a snapper basking on a log in a pond, but from the middle of May to the beginning of June, female snappers go walk-about, seeking a good place to build a nest. Consequently, I've any number of photos of snappers on land.
Then a question came to me: How do they walk? So the very next time I came across a female snapper returning to the pond after making her nest and laying eggs, I took a short video.

The snapper, no matter how large or how heavy the shell (or carapace), is able to keep a brisk pace.
