The iris, seen close, has such remarkable delicacy. It's well worth the walk to see how brilliantly the yellow flags are waving.

According to the Audubon Guide to Wildflowers, yellow flag has been introduced from Europe, and the word flag stems from middle English and means either rush or reed.
