Ruby-Crowned KingletMay 2006

In April I came across a number of ruby-crowned kinglets in the game land north of Cooper's Pond (during those oh so wonderful days when leaves didn't obscure everything).

They're tiny, tiny birds, not much larger than a hummingbird.

Their colors are gray and olive - and yellow. The male ruby-crowned kinglet has a ruby crown, which isn't always visible.

However, occasionally I get lucky, and the following kinglet stayed still long enough and close enough for a very detailed photograph, including his ruby crown.

Luck and bird photography go hand in hand. For me, anyway.

Photo note: I used a Pentax *istD, with the SMC 1000mm reflex lens, for these photos, which were taken in April 2006.
