Mule Deer
at Zion National Park

These photos go back to 1999, before Zion began closing its main road to visitor vehicles. But no matter whatever else there is about Zion, the mule deer are everpresent and a delightful sight. Perhaps they have become too accustomed to people, for they are rather indifferent, and one would come across a deer walking between cabins.

The following mule deer was just off the Narrows trail, and rather too close for the lens I had on my camera, but I was happy to have an entire sequence of her munching on leaves.

That same day on a nearby trail Sue and I came across a few mule deer right before nightfall. I don't know whether this is the same doe as above, but what an amazing spread of "ear."
