Lily as Mandala August 16, 2015

Water lilies are always fascinating, but looking straight down at an emerging blossom opens another world, a mandala.

The second photo is somewhat different, inasmuch as the flower is open. The mandala takes a different shape, but I've no doubt that it's a mandala.

For those curious about the meaning of "mandala," Google offers two definitions: "a geometric figure representing the universe in Hindu and Buddhist symbolism," and, in terms of psychoanalysis, "a symbol in a dream, representing the dreamer's search for completeness and self-unity."

Photo note: I used a Pentax K3, with the SMC-A* 200mm macro lens, on 13 August 2015, for these photos.
